The Vitra Eames Storage Unit ESU Shelf 3HU was designed in 1949, by Charles and Ray Eames who developed ESU as a system of free-standing shelves. Together with the Eames Office and the Dutch designer Hella Jongerius, a carefully defined new colour composition was chosen to give ESU a fresh and contemporary look and still celebrate the spirit of the 1940s and the 1950s.
The second feature of the new ESU is the adjustment of the horizontal dimensions and the expansion of the variants that turns ESU into a veritable family of shelves: Vitra Eames Storage Unit ESU Shelf 3HU was widened and the individual shelves enlarged.
