My First Month at Ferrious

Posted on 6 September 2013 by Ferrious Online

My name is Natalia and I am the new Junior Designer here at Ferrious. Having started on 5th August 2013 I have been here a full month now! It passed so quickly. This place is so busy even though it’s a small office.

On my first day I was sitting in a meeting with a Marset, Living Divani and Porro representative, who had shown me and Katie various furniture pieces and updated us on changes in the catalogues. This was a great opportunity for me as I got to see how the relationship between the furniture rep and the dealer works. I was surprised that it was very informal. I liked the Porro wardrobe systems very much, hopefully one day I will have one like that installed in my house.

Everyone in the office is very busy but always there to help each other on projects, order queries etc. And they keep me busy, too! As the new addition to the design team, I get to work with the designers on various projects, mostly AutoCAD drawings, model making, surveying. I get to see every step of the process being done, as I go on-site sometimes.

Ferrious is based in a lovely day lit showroom on Whitworth Street West in Manchester; therefore the huge amount of space is filled with wonderful designer pieces of furniture. It must have been a hard decision as to what to choose to place in the showroom. There are plans to change a lot here, even move the office to a different place. Have a look at the existing showroom by visiting us or clicking on the picture below for a virtual tour

The most interesting changes in my opinion will be the new furniture that will start to pour in as we sell the current display ones. We have in plans to get some of everyone’s favourites and I can’t wait to see them! I cross my fingers for some off my wish list, so I could at least sit in them until I can afford any myself.

I love that the showroom is open for visitors to touch and feel the pieces. Sitting in a Panton chair is much different than looking at it in a magazine, believe me. Also, we should be getting more Vitra stuff in soon, having just recently become their dealers. At the moment, we have a Vitra wall (below) and I like it as it’s full of colourful accessories. Absolutely love the Hang It All in classic colour scheme.

But my all time favourite of the Vitra products we have in the showroom is much bigger and heavier than all those things above. It is the eye-catching ESU Bookcase (Eames). I love everything about it, the colours, the textures, the different ways of opening different parts… Everything! I really want one for my house; it would be the main feature of the living room.

With this beautiful image, I am going to end this post. I shall keep you updated on our showroom changes and other things happening here. And there is a lot of that, so keep your eyes peeled.
